Cocoa Beach: Surf, Sand, and Laid-Back Coastal Living

Dustin Overton, REALTOR • June 15, 2025

If you had to pick one town that defines Florida’s Space Coast, Cocoa Beach would be it. This is where the salty breeze mixes with the scent of sunscreen, surfboards outnumber briefcases, and flip-flops are basically formal wear. Cocoa Beach is the kind of place where you can feel the ocean’s energy in the air — and the vibe is as easygoing as the waves rolling in.

🌊 The Surf Capital of the East Coast

Cocoa Beach has earned its title as the best surf town on Florida’s east coast. Walk down to Lori Wilson Park or the Cocoa Beach Pier, and you’ll see surfers of all ages paddling out — some catching their first wave, others carving like pros. Want to give it a try? There’s no shortage of surf schools here — check out Ron Jon Surf School or School of Surf for lessons that’ll have you standing up in no time.

And let’s not forget the Cocoa Beach Pier itself — an iconic spot to grab a drink, listen to live music, or just enjoy the breeze as fishermen reel in their catch. On a launch day, this pier becomes one of the best places to watch a rocket light up the sky.

🐾 Dog-Friendly Spots

Cocoa Beach knows pups are part of the family. You can take your dog to the designated pet-friendly stretch of beach (between 4th Street South and Murkshe Park) during set morning and evening hours. And after a beach romp? Plenty of restaurants around town — like 4th Street Fillin Station, The Tiny Turtle, and Pig & Whistle — welcome dogs on their patios.

🍤 Where to Eat Like a Local

When the sun starts to set and your stomach starts to growl, Cocoa Beach delivers. Some of the best spots to eat include:

  • Fat Kahuna’s: Fish tacos, island vibes, and friendly faces.
  • The Fat Snook: Upscale seafood dishes with creative twists — a favorite for locals in the know.
  • Cocoa Beach Fish Camp Grill: Swamp-to-sea dishes served in a casual, fun setting.
  • Juice N Java Café: For when you need a coffee fix or a healthy bite with local art on the walls.

🌴 More Than Just the Waves

Sure, the surf is a big part of Cocoa Beach’s identity, but this town has depth. You’ll find history at the Florida Surf Museum, shop for gear (or just soak up the atmosphere) at the 24-hour Ron Jon Surf Shop, and explore a downtown that still feels like classic Florida.

The community is tight-knit, the sunsets are spectacular, and whether you’re here for a visit or thinking about staying for good, Cocoa Beach has a way of making you feel right at home. From oceanfront condos with killer views to cozy homes tucked just a few blocks from the sand, it’s easy to see why Cocoa Beach is one of the most sought-after spots on the Space Coast.
